The minds and experience behind Libra Bellydance and Fusion
Andrea Puron
Founder & Executive Director
I began dancing at a young age, training with Jillina, Suhaila Salimpour, Fadi El Saadi, Zoe Anwar, Aline Del Castillo, and others. Over two decades, I have taught, performed, and built dance communities in Mexico and the US. In 2005, I opened my first studio in México with my mom, which we ran for 12 years. In 2016, I founded Libra Bellydance to continue as a dancer, teacher, and community builder.
Throughout my career, I have had the opportunity to perform, teach, and collaborate with artists and organizations that inspire me. For example, I have served as a host for Bellydance Evolution productions in Austin and performed in both Austin and Houston as part of the cast. In addition, I have taught and performed at the Migrations Festival and the Pecan Street Festival, and collaborated with numerous nonprofits, cultural organizations, and community initiatives throughout Austin.
Learning to dance is a liberating experience that nourishes the body, mind, and spirit. It builds self-esteem and helps to dismantle the personal and social barriers we often carry.
Bellydance is my foundation. It connects us to our bodies, minds, and inner strength, supporting awareness, presence, control, and confidence on and off the dance floor.
Alongside this strong foundation, I continuously explore fusion as a kind of artistic expression and growth. Fusion expands my body language, keeps my curiosity vibrant, and enables collaboration with artists and disciplines that inspire me, always treated with respect, study, and appreciation for their roots.
I believe dance, like humanity, is diverse and interrelated. Different styles, cultures, and rhythms coexist with unique beauty. We are diverse, unique, yet equal. I value collaboration, learning, connection, and the persistent dialogue between similarity and difference.
