OUR STORY

Libra Bellydance is a Latina-owned dance company and community that offers a creative, safe, and inclusive space for individuals to explore their passion for bellydance.

Through movement, artistic expression, and performance opportunities, Libra fosters personal growth, teamwork, and a strong sense of community.

Founded by Andrea Purón on November 27, 2015, in Mexico, Libra was born from the mission of creating a supportive environment where bellydance empowers a positive self-image, builds confidence, and strengthens the connection between mind and body. In 2019, Andrea relocated to Austin, Texas, where she continued to grow the Libra community—honoring her roots while forging new connections through the art of bellydance.

The minds and experience behind Libra Bellydance and Fusion

Andrea Puron

Founder & General Director

I started dancing at a very young age. My formal training began with teachers such as Jillina, Suhaila Salimpour, Fadi El Saadi, Zoe Anwar, Aline Del Castillo, and many others. In 2005, I opened my first dance studio in México alongside my mom, which we proudly ran together for 12 years. In 2016, I founded Libra Bellydance, continuing my path as a dancer, teacher, and community builder.

Learning to dance is a liberating experience. It enriches the body, mind, and spirit, builds self-esteem, and helps dismantle the personal and social barriers we often carry.

Bellydance is the foundation of my practice. It is a powerful tool for connection—connecting with the body, the mind, and one’s own inner strength. Through bellydance, we cultivate awareness, presence, control, and confidence, both on and off the dance floor.

Alongside this strong foundation, I also explore fusion as a form of artistic expression and growth. Fusion allows me to expand my body language, remain curious, and collaborate with artists and disciplines that inspire me—always from a place of respect, study, and appreciation for their roots.

I believe dance—like humanity—is diverse, layered, and deeply interconnected. Different styles, cultures, movements, and rhythms coexist with their own unique beauty. We are diverse and unique, yet deeply equal. I value collaboration, learning, connection, and the ongoing dialogue between what makes us similar and what makes us beautifully different.
